How to Shoot and Score Goals in FIFA 20

Shooting has changed slightly when compared to FIFA 18. The low driven shot was particularly effectively in that version of the game but has lost a lot of its power in the latest version.

Finesse

At the time of writing, this type of shot is overpowered and has a great chance of going into the net when at a 90 degree angle outside of your opponent’s penalty area. To give yourself the best chance of scoring you need to use your player’s strongest foot but is another reason to use players in your team that have a 4 or 5 star week foot trait.

Low Driven

This is performed by holding down the L1/LB and R1/RB buttons and pressing the shoot button. You need to make sure that you are holding down both buttons as just holding the L1/LB button will result in a chip shot.

Low driven shots are a lot less effective in the latest version of the game than in 18 but can be effective when your player is just inside the box and is parallel to the goal, so not at a 90 degree angle.

Standard

This default button to press when you want to shoot is circle (PS4) or B (Xbox) and is effective when you are inside your opponent’s penalty area or when the keeper is rushing towards you.

Volleys

At the time of writing these types of shots are considered to be overpowered and so a great way of scoring in and around the penalty area. You can scoop up the ball using the right stick and then by shooting. If the ball comes to you in the air you can make sure that you volley the ball by holding down the LT button and pressing shoot.

Timed Finishing

This is a new feature in the latest version of the game and requires that you press the shoot button initially like you would normally do and then to press the shoot button again just as your player’s foot connects with the ball. Timed Finished is not a guarantee of scoring a goal but the better you time it the greater the chance that you have of scoring. You can use Timed Finishing with the above shooting techniques. Penalties

These aren’t as easy to score as you might think! We have a dedicated guide to scoring from penalties that you can read here. Make sure you know how to execute pens as they are often the difference between winning and drawing games!
