How to perform this:

Release the left stick.

PS4: Tap square or circle then press X

Xbox One: Tap B or X then press A.

This will add variety to your play and place more doubt into the mind of your opponent in terms of what you will do and can buy you some space. If the only pass available is quite obvious the performing this skill move can buy you some time as the defenders may move to cover the space. You can then look to see if any other passes become available when you stop.
